I agree with most sentiments expressed in this manifesto. However, I disagree with the statement that sabbatical leave should not be linked to publications or some other kind of outcome. I don’t see how it can be justified to give academics 6 months leave every three years if they don’t produce anything as a result. Sabbatical is not long service leave. It is a privilege granted in order to continue to be research active to those who are swamped with teaching and administration.
